An exciting announcement about the ministry of Mountain View Presbyterian Church (MVPC)!About thirty years ago or so "Youth Sports" started playing games on Sunday and Wednesday nights. These times were traditionally “off limits” as they were set aside for Church activities and worship.Ever since that time young families have been migrating from the “pew to the playing field.”Here’s the BIG Announcement! At its last meeting, the Session (Elder Board) of MVPC voted to extend an offer to Rick Strasser to become MVPC’s “Sports Ministry Pastor.”Our rationale for this position is as follows:Recognizing the many families which have migrated from the “pew to the playing field” with the advance of sports activities being played every day of the week, the MVPC Sports Ministry Pastor will offer an incarnational ministry of presence, discipleship, support, encouragement and prayer for players, coaches, league directors, parents and family members involved in sports in the greater Las Vegas area.
Rick brings years upon years of ministry experience to this role.
For fifteen years Rick had been the Southern Nevada Director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has served as Chaplain for the UNLV Rebels Football team, UNLV Dance Team, Faith Lutheran Football, the WNBA Champion Las Vegas Aces. Currently, Rick is the chaplain for the Indoor Football Team, Las Vegas Night Hawks.
Rick will serve as a type of “missionary” for MVPC as he gets out into and onto the field of all things sports in the Las Vegas area.
Youth Sports is an ample field for outreach, ministry, relationship development where young people along with their families need to experience firsthand the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Rick is married to Kelly and together they have seven children - all girls! Wow!
Rick has recently joined the MVPC Chancel Choir!
I will be introducing Rick on Sunday, June 16th at both services. His official work with MVPC begins on July 1st.
Come on out this Sunday to meet Rick and Kelly and offer to them a warm MVPC welcome!
See you Sunday! (Father’s Day!)
Grace and peace,
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
