The sound of Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1” is in the air as graduate after graduate make their way across stages around the country, sliding the tassel affixed to their cap from one side to the other after a firm handshake, the handoff of a diploma and a quick photo opp…
Polite and enthusiastic applause with some hooting and hollering accompanies each name called out even though the audience has been told to hold their applause until the end.
“Signers” work their hands and fingers tirelessly “signing” each letter of a person’s name for the hearing impaired. I believe these “signers” need a huge applause at the end!
The question of the day is, “Where have you graduated from?”
What institutions of learning have you had the privilege of gracing the stage, going from “student” to “alumni?”
Here’s my answer:
Orange High School, Orange, California - Class of 1981
Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina - Class of 1985 (B.A. in Religion)
Union Theological Seminary of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia - Class of 1988 (Masters of Divinity)
One day each of us will grace the heavenly stage where we will graduate from the “Church Militant” to the “Church Triumphant!”
Perhaps on that day we won’t hear Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1”, but rather the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah”!
What a sound the heavenly chorus would make!!!
My son Joshua graduates tomorrow from Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, Nevada!
Way to go Joshua! Mom and Dad are so proud!
We love you!
Have an amazing Thursday!
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
