Do you remember the song - "This Little Light of Mine"?
"This little light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
Oh, this little light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine.”
The other verses reference about “this little light of mine” being shone around the neighborhood, not letting your light be hidden under a bushel and not letting anyone (Satan in particular) blow it out.
This little light of mine.. I’m going to let it shine!
The song is based on Matthew 5: 14-16 where Jesus says,
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
In Gospel of John, chapter 8, Jesus proclaims, “I am the light of the world…”
Combining the song, the verse from Matthew and Jesus’ own proclamation, how is your light shining these days?
Maybe it’s at 500 watts strong…
Maybe it’s a glimmer…
Maybe it’s snuffed out at the moment…
Maybe your little light has turned into a bonfire…
Whatever it may be, the reality and truth of the matter is - Our world needs the light of Jesus shining through us to illuminate some of the shadows and dark places in our world.
So, let’s take our light from the Light of the World and let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
See you Sunday!
Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
